The Mayflower
Land was now but a thin line in the distance, like a last thread of security threatening to break. Teary eyes gazed back at their beloved country for one last time, to only be greeted by grey swells, veiling England and her shores. Onward sailed the Mayflower, away from her native coast, and into a brand new horizon.
Thunder boomed in the ears of all aboard, as colossal waves crashed over the bow, the furious ocean tossing her back and forth like a toy. Lighting flashed in the sky above, as if pronouncing certain death to all on the Mayflower. The storm lasted for days, showing no sign of letting up, there was not even hope of survival.
After days of hopelessness and despair, the storm let Mayflower out of its cruel grasp, and they were introduced to calm seas for the first time since their departure from cherished England. Though soon again, they were by tempest tossed, a seed of hope was planted in their hearts, one that kept growing.
Sixty-five grueling days later, what was there to greet their salt and tear stung eyes but land, glorious, welcoming land! Weeping with joy, the passengers and crew feasted their eyes upon the sight of something other than a grey expanse of water, nonetheless their painfully achieved goal, the New World, America!
